Installation Artist – David Abir Extraordinaire

March 27th, 2010 § 2

When you see real motivated pure powerful talent such as Iranian-American artist David Abir of NYC,
you just have to throw up your arms and scream
“Where have you been all of my life!”

His installation Tekrar shown at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in ‘07 was said to bring such unexpected emotional intensity that people were brought to tears and were washed over with a sense of inner peace.

David has been invited to show at Art Basil in Miami this past year and has been earning a growing reputation as a composer and sound specialist for artist working in video.

Octavio Zaya, who first commissioned the piece for a group exhibition entitled After the Revolution. Contemporary artists from Iran, writes “(Abir has) embarked upon a path that opens a new field of multi-disciplinary potential. The juxtaposition of the sometimes almost imperceptible adaptation or modification of the sound that accompanies the tenuous changes in lighting of the outer ear and this controlled space where the music happens, manages to modulate an extraordinary multi-sensorial experience, which we have only recently begun to consider among the emerging trends in artistic practice.”

I can’t wait to see what in store for this extraordinary artist/composer.

I know he will be written about for decades to come!

Just thought you should know about him.

Love all!

Young Hot Curators in NYC

March 19th, 2010 § 1

Have I said this already?

I LOVE NYC!
This article I found in the New York Times shows me that I can be young, hot AND a Curator! I had no idea that these people were out there until now.
Ultimately, this is exactly what I want to do with my life.
It is my passion
My raison detre

I am hoping my work at FIN with local artist will prove to be a step in that direction.
Fingers crossed!!!

Rajendra Roy is kinda my hero so you have to go to MoMa and see Tim Burton’s exhibit.

Times Square Performance Art!

March 16th, 2010 § 1

Now who wouldn’t want to see a movie consisting of 2 lovers slapping each other over and over again?

I know I just posted yesterday but, I’ve gotta say.

I love New York!

Go see this! Performance Art in Times Square?!

Sublime!

Thanks Urbaneye.com!

Performance Art in Times Square

You’re going to the Marina Abramovic retrospective, “The Artist is Present,” at the Museum of Modern Art and you still don’t know who Ulay is? Get up to speed on the German-born performance artist who influenced and collaborated with Ms. Abramovic. Creative Time is presenting three of her films on MTV’s huge outdoor screen in Times Square from March 14 to April 14. The first two films, “Light/Dark” (1977) and “Rest Energy” (1980) feature Ulay, Ms. Abramovic’s former lover. In the first film, the two kneel opposite each other and then take turns slapping each other at a quickening pace; in the second, they stand opposite each other and “slowly lean apart until they are held only by the tension of a loaded bow that is held between them – its arrow pointed directly at Ms. Abramovic’s heart.” The final film, “Dissolution,” (1997) shows Ms. Abramovic whipping her own back. Watch the films and then go see the artist herself in the flesh.

Kiss me I’m Irish!

March 15th, 2010 § 1

Only 2 more days until the big St. Patrick’s Day Parade!
Listen, normally I don’t go for the gathering of the masses type events, but on St Patrick’s Day I embrace the chance to rub butts with my fellow Irishmen!
It is the one day I drink beer.
Green beer for that matter…I know!
It is my guilty pleasure holiday.
My last name is Kelly so naturally I partake in a little Irish Shenanigans, and I’m not talking about ordering a Shamrock Shake at McDonald’s!
Each year I am reminded about a kid named Scott I went to grade school with. Every year on St. Patty’s Day everyone would make sure to be properly decked in there best green garb, but not Scott.
He always wore a turtle neck on that day, and never a green one. Instead he would wear a pickle pin.
So whenever, someone would ask why he wasn’t wearing green he would point at his pickle and say “Yes, I am.”

So here’s to Scott and his Pickle

and here is a complete events list of all the hot happenings for the next few days!

Alice in Wonderland and The Oscars…

March 7th, 2010 § 2

All in one weekend?
Am I in some sort of gay man’s Utopia? I went to see Alice in Wonderland last night at a midnight showing and I have to say I was blown away by the concept but not so much the story. I am a huge Johnny Dep/ Tim Burton fan so I was more than just excited about the release of this movie. After seeing this film however, I was left feeling kind of cold. I loved the set and the costumes, but maybe I was having a hard time with the adaptation of the original story. I felt the same way about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It fell a little flat.

But how excited are you about the Red Carpet today?
I know I AM!!!!
I have a bunch of friends coming over for my 7th annual Gold Man Party. We all dress in our best, and I hand out awards for “Best Hook Up of the year”, “Best New Couple of the year”…well you get the point.
My spread this year is flawless.
I was able to acquire some paddle fish caviar from Chef at FIN and I am making some home made buckwheat blinis. I have a case of champagne chilled and ready to go. Plus a whole beef tenderloin that I plan on roasting whole and slicing thin with some roasted garlic remoulade and fresh baked ciabatta slider buns.

What a day, perfect in every way!
What do you guys have planned???
Cheers my lovelies!

Where Am I?
